Bird Rock, Tin Can Bay, QLD 5-7 February 2010

Nearly a year after my arrival here, I finally take the time to record some of the amazing sights and experiences of Oz. There is a lot of diversity in the scenery around near where we live; marshy mangroves, pointy hills, Australian bush, vast beaches, dry plains, pineapple fields, but when navigating the rivers it is possible to feel like you have seen this before. However, despite the similarities, each place has unique wildlife, and the experiences are never the same.
My cousin and I decided to take a trip up to Tin Can Bay on the Pontoon boat and try our first stay over on the boat. We were prepared with a mozzie tent, portaloo, light and armed with plenty of sunscreen and aeroguard.

We went upstream a river called Teebar Creek and found a secluded well sheltered spot with a small slice of beach.

The smell of the hot BBQ in the open air....mmm... makes me drool thinking about it...
We were blessed with perfect weather, still, mild...clear skies. The rest of the Sunshine Coast/Brisbane was being battered by rain and wind... We also had a half moon to light up the night.
Beautiful sunset. Notice the stingray pods in the mud.
Our abode for the weekend.

The sunrise. Clear as glass.
While we were sitting there with not a soul around, enjoying our breakfast, we suddenly heard a thrashing about near the shore. We looked over to see the fish leaping out of the water. It wasn't till later that we saw 50 or so fins circling the water. These small sharks hung around for 2-3 hours every morning having a feast. We also had visits from dolphins, and turtles. The food was delicious, the wildlife was magical. Let's go again!
